After completing a nationwide search, Ecosystem Investment Partners is very pleased to welcome Katherine Birnie to her new home in Baltimore and to our office as the new Director of Markets. Katherine comes to us from the Maine Coast Heritage Trust where she served as Conservation Innovation Program Manager, managing a number of initiatives to implement new project finance and partnership programs.
Katherine’s previous experience includes a stint at the Wilderness Society, where as the Hewlett Environment Fellow she served as an internal consultant and developed a business plan for a $50M timberland investment fund to provide new mechanism for achieving this national nonprofit’s northeastern Forest Program objectives. She also held a number of positions at the Peninsula Open Space Trust based in Menlo Park, California, negotiating conservation property purchases.
Katherine grew up in New Hampshire and was a Biology and Environmental Studies major cum laude at Williams College where she remembers studying “the ecological underpinnings of natural systems and the policy mechanisms for science to protect those systems”. While at Williams, she worked with The Nature Conservancy and the Appalachian Mountain Club, and was awarded the school’s Scheffey Environmental Leadership Award. She earned an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 2007.
As Director of Markets at EIP, Katherine will be responsible for all aspects of the sales and marketing cycle for ecosystem services credits generated from EIP investments nationwide. She will also assist in evaluation of new investments, markets and purchasing entities.
