DAISETTA SWAMP MITIGATION BANK consists of approximately 600 acres, with restoration that aligns with the 2010 Trinity River Basin Master Plan, 2007 State Water Plan, the Texas Wetlands Conservation Plan, and the East Texas Wetlands Project. The site is made up of forested wetland communities typical of the Lower Trinity River and Pine Island Bayou sub-basins, with a hydrologic connection to Marsh Branch of Long Island Bayou. The site was acquired by EIP in 2022, but approved in 2011.
Daisetta Swamp’s restored wetlands were previously agriculturally cultivated. DSMB’s restoration actions include: removing invasive and noxious species such as Chinese Tallow, restoring topography and floodplain relief, redeveloped historic Marsh Branch in the form of a slough, a series of strategically located levees, replanted species such as oak, hickory, cypress, maple and/or elm, and using forestry techniques to stimulate the right plants in the right places.
