The BLUE CREEK MITIGATION BANK (BCBSMB) restores and protects degraded stream tributaries within its watershed. The project stabilizes stream channels, reduces sedimentation, and enhances riparian forest buffers to improve water quality and ecosystem health.
Restoration efforts reshape stream channels into their natural, stable forms, incorporating diverse features such as riffles, glides, and pools. The project also restores and protects bottomland hardwood and upland forest buffers along the waterways.
The BCBSMB spans more than 3.5 miles of Blue Creek’s primary channel, representing approximately 80% of the creek’s total length. It also includes 15 first- and second-order tributaries that flow into Blue Creek before it merges with Yellowjacket Creek and, ultimately, the Chattahoochee River.
The bank enhances and preserves more than 30 acres of riparian buffer and over 48,000 linear feet of stream channels, generating more than 500,000 stream credits.
