The ETOWAH RIVER ROAD MITIGATION BANK (ERRMB) is a 175-acre compensatory mitigation bank located in the Etowah River watershed (HUC 03150104) in Dawson County, Georgia. It provides stream and wetland mitigation credits for public and private permittees requiring a Section 404 permit. The site lies within Georgia’s Southern Inner Piedmont (Eco-region 45a) and is bordered by Etowah River Road to the north and the Etowah River to the south, approximately 4.5 miles east of Dawsonville.
Historically used for agriculture, the ERRMB underwent extensive restoration efforts, including Priority 1, Priority 2, and Priority 3 stream channel restoration, as well as bank stabilization to reduce erosion and improve aquatic habitat. Additionally, the project restored riparian, upland, and wetland vegetation, along with wetland hydrology through ditch backfilling and stream restoration. These efforts have improved floodplain connectivity, stabilized streambanks, and enhanced overall ecological function.
To ensure long-term conservation, the site has been permanently protected under a restrictive covenant. The ERRMB contributes to the restoration, enhancement, and preservation of vital aquatic resources within the Etowah River basin, supporting watershed health and biodiversity in the region.
