The TOWER ROAD II MITIGATION BANK (TRMB2) is a 445-acre proposed mitigation site located in southern Heard County, Georgia, within the Middle Chattahoochee River watershed (HUC 03130002). It is positioned downstream and adjacent to the existing Tower Road Mitigation Bank I (TRMB1). Currently, the site consists primarily of managed timberland, with baseline assessments revealing entrenched and channelized streams with unstable banks. While much of the riparian zone is composed of mature hardwood forests within Streamside Management Zones (SMZs), some areas consist of young, densely planted pines.
The TRMB2 mitigation plan focuses on restoration, enhancement, and preservation to improve stream and wetland functions within the watershed. Key mitigation actions include stream restoration of unnamed tributaries to Whitewater Creek using Priority 1, Priority 2, and Priority 4 techniques, restoration and preservation of riparian zones, and wetland restoration targeting previously ditched and drained floodplains. Additionally, the project will include wetland and wetland buffer preservation, ensuring long-term ecological benefits and habitat stability within the site.
