BAYOU CHOUPIQUE MITIGATION BANK is named “choupique” after the local Louisiana term for bowfin fish. This narrow river is part of the Vermillion-Teche watershed. Our partner, Delta Land Services, constructed the site in 2012 to restore the swamp and bottomland hardwood wetlands after its longtime use as a rice and soybean farm. Next door to another large, permittee-responsible mitigation site operated by Delta, Bayou Choupique has the potential to support a broad range of species including black bears.

EIP owns and sponsors the bank, and Delta continues to work with permittees and consultants to sell the credits. Credits from Bayou Choupique Mitigation Bank meet the needs of diverse development projects in the Vermillion-Teche watershed, from roads to oil and gas to industrial development.
