BOX ELDER MITIGATION BANK is located on approximately 147 acres in Adams County, Colorado in the Middle South Platte-Cherry Creek watershed on property owned by the Colorado State Land Board. The project will restore, enhance, and permanently protect approximately 7,788 linear feet of Box Elder Creek and associated riparian areas, as well as approximately 9 acres of wetlands.
EIP worked with local stream restoration experts to develop a restoration strategy which includes Priority I and Priority II restoration activities to reconnect the stream with the flood plain, removal of exotic species and reestablishment of riparian vegetation. The mitigation bank, along with Barr Lake State Park, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, and Denver International Airport Mitigation site, will be part of a greenway corridor that will serve as an important refuge for area wildlife and native plant communities.
Credits provide compensatory mitigation for Waters of the U.S. and Waters of the State impacts. The service area of the bank includes the Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and Aurora.
