SOUTH PLATTE MITIGATION BANKĀ is located on approximately 171 acres in Morgan County, Colorado in the floodplain of the South Platte River on property owned by the Colorado State Land Board. The project restores, enhances and permanently protects approximately 106 acres of wetlands and 65 acres of surrounding upland buffer.
EIP worked with local hydrologists and engineers to develop a stream restoration strategy which includes excluding cattle, removing sediment depositions to restore the floodplain wetlands, as well as the removal of exotic species and reestablishment of native wetland and surrounding upland plant communities.
The South Platte River is considered part of the headwaters of a major water basin and serves as a primary water source for eastern Colorado. The South Platte riparian corridors have been heavily impacted by anthropogenic activities which have resulted in the loss and degradation of historical wetland habitat.
Credits provide compensatory mitigation for Waters of the U.S. and Waters of the State impacts. The service area of the bank includes the Denver, Boulder, Fort Collins and Aurora.
