PEACE RIVER MITIGATION BANK is popular among paddlers, fishers, and hikers who appreciate the namesake river’s quiet, undisturbed spirit. The Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) included what is now the Peace River Mitigation Bank, with its 2.5 miles of frontage on the Peace River, on its 2001 list of priority lands for protection.
SWFWMD considers it an “important” preservation site and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) call it both a “biodiversity hotspot” and a “priority wetland habitat.” Exotic invasive species have been removed and this important riparian corridor is now protected with a conservation easement.
