The PEACE RIVER MITIGATION BANK spans 2.5 miles of frontage along the Peace River and is popular among paddlers, fishers, and hikers who value the river’s quiet, undisturbed character. Recognizing the ecological significance of the area, the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) included the site on its 2001 list of priority lands for protection.
Today, SWFWMD classifies it as an “important” preservation site, while the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) identifies it as both a “biodiversity hotspot” and a “priority wetland habitat.” Following the removal of exotic invasive species, this vital riparian corridor is now permanently protected under a conservation easement.
